Election Day Change for Town of Victoria Mayor and Council

9/20/2021

During the 2021 session of the Virginia General Assembly legislation was passed requiring local governmental elections held in May to be moved to the General Election Day in November.  Following a public hearing at its September 14, 2021 council meeting, the Victoria Town Council approved an ordinance amendment and charter change to move local elections from May to November.  The next election for the Town of Victoria will be in 2022.  The mayor and three council seats are up for election in 2022.  Instead of an election in May, the 2022 election will be held November 8, 2022.  The mayor and the three council members are serving terms that were scheduled to expire June 30, 2022 but due to the required change in elections the expiration of their terms has been extended until December 31, 2022.  The three remaining council seats will come up for election in 2024.  Those three council members are serving terms that were scheduled to expire June 30, 2024 but due to the required change in elections the expiration of their terms has been extended until December 31, 2024.  Once the transition is completed at the end of 2024 the mayor and council members will serve terms that begin on January 1 of the respective year and expire on December 31 of the respective year.
